Our Staff

Deerfield Community Nursery School (DCNS) is proud of our staff.

Director
Mindi Schryer has a Masters Degree in Education and has worked in the early childhood field more than 25 years. She was the director of a NAEYC-accredited program for infants through 5-year-olds for 18 years before coming to DCNS in 2003. She is a member of NAEYC, teaches early childhood education classes at Oakton Community College, an advisory-board member of Oakton Community College's early childhood education department, a member of the Director's Network and has presented at conferences in early childhood education. She also teaches the Time with Tots program.

Teachers
The DCNS teachers are both nurturing and dedicated to early childhood education. We are particularly proud of our low teacher turnover rate, with an average of 20 years experience per teacher, and our low child-to-staff ratio. All of our head teachers have 2 or 4 year college degrees in either the education field or early childhood education, and one has a nursing degree. Some of our staff even started out as DCNS parents.

Daily communication with parents and caregivers is valued by our teachers. Time is regularly set aside for conferences and discussions with teachers and the Director in both formal and informal meetings with parents. Parents are invited and encouraged to visit the school at any time.

Music Specialist

Lynn Miller is a talented music educator and has taught at DCNS for over 25 years. She has a degree in music education and is also trained in Music Together® and Orff techniques. Once a week the children enjoy her music class:

  • M (movement)
  • U (upbeat rhythm and speech patterns)
  • S (singing)
  • I (instruments)
  • C (celebrating the love of music)
Exposing children to music education at an early age not only develops the child musically but establishes foundations for math and language skills.
