DCNS is a unique community for your child and your whole family. It is more than just a place
to take your child to learn. The warm, supportive, caring and fun community is exemplified in ways such as social events for
both families and just adults, fellow parents giving support or sharing a laugh during pickup/dropoff, volunteers working
together to create a family event, parents helping a fellow family who is in need and staff who genuinely care about your
family. You won't find anything like it anywhere else in Deerfield.
Small class sizes
and low child-to-teacher ratios are core to the school. Having the lowest child-to-teacher ratios on the North Shore
means more individualized attention for each child.
Our experienced and nurturing teachers
are passionate about early childhood education. All of our head teachers have degrees and have been at DCNS more than 17 years,
and our Director has a M.Ed. and has been with the school for 8 years. Our staff truly cares about your child and your whole
family.
A play-based philosophy is the foundation for DCNS's curriculum. Your child
learns through play with block building, dramatic play, puzzles, sensory materials, matching games, transportation toys, and
gross motor outdoor play. DCNS concentrates on the cognitive, physical and social skills necessary to succeed in kindergarten
and beyond.
Weekly music time with our talented music teacher who has been teaching at
DCNS for over 25 years. She has a four-year degree in Music Education and has been trained in Music Together® and Orff
techniques.
Opportunities to get involved for those parents who are interested are available
through many varied activities such as joining the Board of Directors, helping organize social events or simply decorating
bulletin boards. DCNS allows you to be as involved as you want to be.
Daily communication with
parents and caregivers is valued by our teachers. Teachers are always available to talk to parents about concerns
or answer questions, and parents are given the teachers' home phone numbers.
Our secure
playground is on-site and only used by our school.
Toilet-training is not required of
children.
